MIRI: A landslide caused by continuous overnight rain has blocked the only access road to Kampung Danau in Bekenu, leaving the village temporarily cut off early this morning (Jan 4).
Firefighters were alerted shortly before 5 am and crews from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched immediately. They reached the scene at about 5.35 am and confirmed a slope failure along a hillside estimated to be about 30 feet high.
The collapse had completely sealed off the main road into the village.
Fire officers carried out an on-site assessment and installed safety barriers to prevent vehicles and residents from entering the affected area, amid concerns of further soil movement following prolonged rainfall.

The incident was reported to the disaster operations centre for further coordination and follow-up action by the relevant authorities.
No injuries were reported and no other agencies were involved during the initial response.
Operations concluded at around 6.30 am, with the fire crew returning to base shortly afterwards. The affected location is approximately 43 kilometres from the Batu Niah fire station.
Authorities are expected to assess the stability of the slope and determine the next course of action to restore access to the village.
