KUCHING: A woman was jailed for three months by the Magistrates’ Court here for stealing a laptop from a vehicle sales and distribution company.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan meted out the sentence on Asmida Pauzi, 33, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft inside a building.
The offence was committed at the company’s showroom along Jalan Abell at 7.15 pm on Oct 28.
According to the facts of the case, CCTV footage captured the accused entering the showroom counter area and taking an HP laptop.
A police report was lodged, leading to her arrest on Nov 12.
Investigations show that Asmida initially intended to steal cash from the premises to buy fuel for her car, which had run out.
When she found no money, she instead took the laptop and later admitted she wanted to use it for online business activities.
Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
