BINTULU: One hundred foreign nationals were rounded up in large-scale immigration operations after authorities uncovered multiple immigration violations during coordinated raids at eight locations across the district.
The two-day operations were jointly carried out by the Bintulu Immigration Division and the Marine Police Force (PPM) Region 5 Bintulu under ‘Ops Selera’, ‘Ops Gegar’ and ‘Ops Belanja’ from 1:00 am on June 21 until 8:00 am on June 22.
A total of 124 individuals, comprising both locals and foreigners, were screened during the operations.
Of the total detained, 83 were men, 15 were women and two were boys. They are believed to have committed various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
Investigations found that some had overstayed their permitted period of stay under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while others were found without valid passes or permits under Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act.
Several were also believed to have breached the conditions of their immigration passes under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said enforcement operations will continue to be intensified to track down, detain and take stern action against foreigners who flout Malaysia’s immigration laws.
Such operations are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the country’s borders and ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.
