SARATOK: A month-long crackdown has delivered a major blow to the drug scene in the district, with narcotics police arresting and charging a total of 113 suspects believed to be involved in substance abuse.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the coordinated ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ raids — launched simultaneously across Saratok, Roban and Kabong — netted suspects aged between 30 and 50, all believed to be directly involved in drug abuse.
“This month, a total of 97 individuals were held under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse, making it the highest category of offenders in the operation.
“Another eight suspected suppliers were arrested under Section 39A(1), while eight more were detained under Section 12(2) of the same Act and the Poisons Act 1952,” he said.
Mathew assured that the district police would continue conducting the anti-narcotics operation under a no-nonsense, total enforcement strategy.
He also called on Saratok residents to work hand-in-hand with police by sharing any information that could help curb drug activities in the district.
