KUCHING: The year ending “Last Kopek” golf tournament will be held at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) on Saturday (Dec 29) and members of the public are cordially invited to participate in the event.
According to DGCC’s general manager, Roslan Mohd Salleh the competition is being organised due to popular demand by both its club members and non-members.
“The one-day event is open to golfers with valid club and NHS handicap index of 22.3 and below with the entrance fee inclusive of green fee, buggy and prize giving lunch,” he said.
“This is also a good opportunity for the golfers to spend their holidays playing their favourite game while ushering the coming of year 2019,” Roslan said.
He added that the event is based on stroke play where attractive prizes are up for grabs, including those in the lucky draw session.
The club is also finalising the calendar of events for the year 2019 which will be announced soon but members of the public can look forward to an interesting line up of tournaments which will be held there starting in early January next year.
Meanwhile, Roslan paid glowing tribute to the outgoing general manager of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Datu Haji Soedirman Aini who had supported the development of DGCC and the upgrading of its golf course for the past six years.
“On behalf of DGCC, we record our utmost appreciation to Datu Haji Soedirman Haji Aini for his guidance and support towards the club which included the development and upgrading of our golf course,” he said.
According to Roslan, over the years the club had grown from strength to strength and had hosted a number of international golf championships, including the prestigious Sarawak Championship 2018 in early July which was part of this year’s Asian Tour.
The club was also the venue for the PGM-MNRB Sarawak Golf Championship 2018 which was part of this year’s Asian Development Tour (ADT) where upcoming professional golfers from all over the world had competed.
“With his support and encouragement, DGCC was upgraded and our facilities had met the high standards which were needed to become the hosting venue for the two world class tournaments where over 300 professional golfers had participated,” Roslan said.
He said the club had excelled in delivering the expectations of its members and non-members because Datu Soedirman was instrumental in giving the much needed support for the development and upgrading works to be done.
“We wish Datu Soedirman all the best in his future undertakings and hopefully he will continue playing at our club,” Roslan said.
