KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police arrested the third teenage escapee from Sekolah Tunas Bakti Kuching last night (Aug 18).
Kota Samarahan Police Chief, Supt Damataries Lautin, said the 16-year-old, was picked up at Kampung Tabuan Melayu at 8:45 pm and is currently held at the Kota Samarahan police lock-up pending remand this afternoon.
He said the detainee, who has a previous conviction under Section 91(1)(f) of the Child Act 2001, admitted during interrogation that he had planned the escape and persuaded two others to join him.
“The trio escaped from the school on August 17 at 12:30 am by climbing over the school’s back fence and ran to PETRONAS Mile 8 petrol station along Jalan Kuching-Serian. From there, they obtained a lift to Tabuan, Kuching,” he said in a statement.
Damataries added the three stopped at the 16-year-old boy’s house at 3:00 am, where they changed clothes before going their separate ways.
“The teenager also told investigators he escaped because he could no longer endure serving his sentence and acted beyond limits,” he said.
Earlier, the other two teenage inmates, aged 15 and 16 from Sibu and Miri, were detained at 2:20 am yesterday.
