MIRI: A late-night fire here destroyed part of a family home and reduced two vehicles to wreckage, forcing nine occupants to flee but leaving all unharmed, authorities said.

Emergency services were alerted at 9.29 pm on Saturday to reports of a blaze at a single-storey house in Tudan Desaras.

Fire crews from the Lutong station were mobilised within a minute, arriving on scene at 9.42 pm to find flames already taking hold of the structure.

The house, a permanent one-storey dwelling measuring about 30 by 30 feet, sustained about 20 per cent damage.

Parked nearby, a Nissan Almera and a Proton Wira were completely destroyed, suggesting the fire had spread rapidly beyond its initial point of origin.

Nine people linked to the property were present at the time.

All managed to get out safely, with no injuries reported, in what officials described as a narrowly contained incident given the proximity of vehicles and residential space.

Firefighters moved quickly to prevent further escalation. Two hose lines were deployed over a 100-foot stretch, drawing water from a nearby hydrant.

The blaze was brought under control within minutes, with active suppression beginning at 9.43 pm and containment achieved by 9.47 pm.

Additional support units from the Lopeng station, including an emergency medical response team, were dispatched as a precaution.

Police officers and electricity utility personnel were also present to secure the area and manage potential hazards.

Crews remained at the scene for overhaul operations, ensuring no residual heat or hidden embers could reignite the fire.

The final units returned to base shortly before midnight.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, with authorities yet to determine the ignition source or quantify the total losses.
