Late-night fire disrupts family’s sleep, partially destroys home

KUCHING: A family of four was jolted awake when a midnight fire partially destroyed their single-storey terrace house in Tabuan Laru early today.

Fortunately, all occupants, aged between 24 and 71, managed to escape unharmed in the 12.20 am incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to Lorong 2C, Tabuan Laru, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found the living room and three bedrooms fully engulfed in flames, with about 60 per cent of the house damaged.

The team extinguished the flames using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant, and overhaul works followed suit to ensure there was no risk of reignition.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 2.36 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
