MUKAH: The town’s streets became the scene of a tense immigration crackdown last night (Nov 11) as 15 foreigners were detained in coordinated raids by the Sarawak Immigration Department.
The late-night sweep, which ran from 10.30 pm to 5 am, involved the department’s Enforcement Division and Special Action Team, with support from officers in Sarikei, Sri Aman, and Sibu.
Four locations were raided under two simultaneous operations, known as ‘Ops Gegar’ and ‘Ops Sapu’.
A total of 37 individuals — 14 Malaysians and 23 foreigners — were inspected during the raids, with 15 foreigners taken into custody for various immigration offences.
The detainees are suspected of violating Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and failing to produce valid travel documents.
The team also identified one employer linked to the detainees, who was issued a Form 29 for further investigation.
The department assured it is committed to maintaining strict enforcement against illegal immigration and ensuring the integrity of the country’s immigration laws is upheld.
