KUCHING: An English teacher from SK Long Sebangang, Lawas, Muhammad Nazmi Rosli, has received international recognition after being named one of the 50 finalists for the Global Teacher Prize 2025.
The achievement was met with congratulations from Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who expressed his pride in Muhammad Nazmi for bringing honour to the country on the global stage.
“His sincerity in educating young Malaysians by injecting creativity into education in a rural school in Sarawak is an exemplary model of leadership in education.
“This recognition should also serve as an inspiration for all educators,” he said in a Facebook post today (Jan 16).
Muhammad Nazmi, 32, is well known for his innovative teaching approaches.
He incorporates creative simulation exercises in the classroom to engage his students, such as role-playing activities in a laundrette or on an aeroplane, providing a unique and enjoyable English learning experience.
What’s even more remarkable is that all the materials used for these activities are recycled items, which not only teach students English but also instil environmental conservation awareness.
Muhammad Nazmi’s creative methods have not only led to success at the national level — where he won the Malaysian Teacher Prize 2023 — but have now also gained recognition on the global stage.
