KUCHING: A total of RM10,000 in prizes will be up for grabs as the inaugural LCDA Sapphire Run 1.0 flags off at Padang Merdeka on Apr 5.
Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) Corporate Affairs senior manager Saiful Bahari Amra Ramly said the run will feature two categories, 10km and 4.5km, with the shorter distance symbolising LCDA’s 45 years of establishment.
“Both categories are open to men and women, with prizes totaling RM10,000 to be awarded across both.
“In the 10km race, champions will receive RM600, first runners-up RM500, and third place RM400, with prizes extending to 10th place for both men and women.

“In the 4.5km race, champions will take home RM300, first runners-up RM250, and third place RM200, with additional prizes also up to 10th place,” he told reporters during the event media conference at Wisma Satok here today (March 3).
He added that the 10km flag-off is scheduled at 6am and is expected to be flagged off by LCDA general manager Datuk Zaidi Mahdi, while the 4.5km flag-off will begin at 6.30am, with plans to have Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan attend the start.
Meanwhile, the running route will cover key locations within the city centre, including Kuching Waterfront, Plaza Merdeka, Datuk Ammar Juma’ani Bridge, Borneo Cultures Museum, Hikmah Exchange, Sarawak Tourism Board, and Domani Hotel.
“Along the route, several checkpoints will feature LCDA-themed quiz questions, giving us an opportunity to engage with the community and provide a better understanding of LCDA’s roles and functions,” he added.
Organised in collaboration with GRIT Event Management, the run is part of LCDA’s 45th anniversary celebration and community engagement initiatives under the theme “45 Years with the Community”.
“As this is LCDA’s first time organising such an event, we hope to see strong participation from the public.
“Besides promoting exercise, we encourage participants to bring their families to explore LCDA’s work, as booths and small exhibitions will be set up on the day.
“To date, nearly 400 participants have registered, and we are targeting between 800 and 1,000. Registration is still open, with race pack collection beginning on April 4 from 9.30am to 5.30pm at Wisma Satok,” he said.
On participation fees, LCDA Staff Club (LAKSAMANA) chairman Khairul Hisyam Abdullah said that said the 10km category costs RM60, while the 4.5km category is RM45 per person.
“Participants will receive a T-shirt, and all finishers will be awarded a medal, as there will be no timing system.
“Interested members of the public may register online via the official website at https://gritevent.com/lcda/, where payment can be made directly online,” he said.
