KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has emphasised the importance of public feedback while stressing the need to assess the credibility of surveys gauging public opinion.

The Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development said this in response to a recent article on the approval ratings of Dayak ministers and deputy ministers.

She said she respects the views of the people and believes public feedback, whether positive or critical, are essential for leaders to reflect and improve.

“Surveys like this can be a useful tool to gauge public perception, but it is equally important to evaluate the credibility of the survey, particularly its methodology.

“Factors such as sample size, demographics, survey questions, and whether the sample is representative of the population play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the findings,” she said.

Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, said as members of the Sarawak Cabinet, ministers remain committed to serving the people to the best of their abilities.

“Constructive feedback, when grounded in credible data, provides valuable insights for improvements.

“We encourage continuous engagement between the government and the people so that concerns can be directly addressed, and we can work together to create meaningful change,” she said.

From a community perspective, she acknowledged the importance of leaders being accountable and connected to the people they serve.

“While surveys may highlight certain perceptions, it is vital to ensure that the feedback is based on robust data to truly reflect public sentiment,” she said.

Recently, Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and a member of the National Unity Advisory Council (NUAC), Prof Dr Jayum Jawan had conducted a survey and collected responses from Dayak netizens on the approval ratings of 18 selected Dayak ministers and deputy ministers at the federal and state levels.
