LAWAS: A leadership enhancement course, aimed at strengthening the scouting movement in northern Sarawak, was held at the Centre of Excellence at the Lawas District Education Office on Wednesday.
The course drew 27 participants from across the district, including Assistant District Scout Commissioners, Scout Leaders, Senior Assistant Co-curricular Officers, and members of the Lawas District Scout Council.
The one-day course was designed to equip scout leaders with essential leadership skills, a deeper understanding of scouting policies, and effective strategies for managing and growing their local troops.
The course was organised to empower grassroots leadership, and the training featured experienced facilitators from the Sarawak Scout Headquarters.
Lead trainer Aldrin Peter Diman, assisted by Abdul Taib Kolek, delivered interactive and practical sessions, offering guidance tailored to the needs of Lawas’ educators and youth leaders.
“This course isn’t just about leadership, it’s about building a movement.
“We are here to ensure that Lawas becomes a hub for the growth of scouting in northern Sarawak,” Aldrin said.
Participants took part in sessions covering key topics such as team-building, scout troop management, and community engagement, all of which are vital for revitalising the Scout movement in rural areas.
A major focus of the course was developing strategies to boost scout membership in Lawas, particularly by fostering more dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable scout groups.
By the end of the course, participants expressed renewed confidence and motivation to lead and inspire the next generation of scouts.
