MIRI: Pupils are reminded to seriously learn the English language while upholding the Bahasa Malaysia.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting believed that mastering both languages is crucial in today’s world.
He applauded the state government’s initiative to implement the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English for Primary schools in the state.
This, he opined, would make Sarawak the first state in Malaysia to do so.
“English is a global language, for us to pursue knowledge and at the same time, we must also uphold Bahasa Malaysia,” he said at the Gawai Raya celebration held by Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Luak yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, Ting also emphasised on the importance of nurturing and instilling positive values in school pupils.
“By instilling good and positive values in children at the early age will help them to have better understanding among the various ethnic groups.
“These are crucial ingredients for unity, despite the differences in culture,” he opined.
At the event, Ting announced his rural transformation projects (RTP) worth RM220,000 to SK Kampung Luak.
The projects, to be implemented in July, involve road resurfacing and construction of the school roof for its corridor area.
Ting also pledged RM5,000 to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association.
