SIBU: Accidents can happen anytime, anywhere and no one can predict when an emergency might strike, says Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee.

“But what we can do is to prepare ourselves with the right First-Aid knowledge and the right response in times of need,” he pointed out during the ‘Fun First-Aid Seminar’ held at the premises of MRCS Sibu branch today (May 17).

The event, jointly organised by the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan Division, Komuniti Madani Norkiah, and in collaboration with MRCS Sibu branch, was participated by more than 120 longhouse residents from the Bawang Assan area.

Penghulu Chua said MRCS Sibu branch believed strongly that first aid learning is about acquiring important life-saving skills, which are simple to learn and provide powerful benefits.

He stressed that the ability to stay calm and take the right action in the first four minutes could make all the difference in saving lives.

“By learning first aid skills, we can fight not only for our own survival but also extend a helping hand to others when it matters most.

“That is why first aid learning is not just important, it is an ‘essential’ in daily life, a precious gift that we can offer to those in need,” he said.

“Through this event, we hope to make first aid accessible and enjoyable. We believe that first aid learning should be fun, and more importantly, it should be something we arm ourselves with for life.”

He also reckoned that MRCS Sibu branch aims to have at least “a First Aider in every home” to respond in times of emergency.

“To all the participants, thank you for taking the first step in becoming lifesavers in your families and communities,” Chua added.

Among those present were PDP senior president, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Bawang Assan assemblyman; Komuniti Madani Norkiah chairman, Cr Wong Hua; and organising chairman, Cr Law Lee Wee.
