KUCHING: The ‘Promosi Pendidikan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (PKK)’ programme empowered the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Kuching Branch members with practical skills, encourage entrepreneurship and community support through a fun, hands-on session.
Co-organised by PERKIM Kuching Branch and the Department of Community Development (KEMAS) under the Petra Jaya constituency, the hands-on session brought together around 30 enthusiastic participants in a relaxed yet meaningful setting.
Participants were guided through fun, interactive activities, including a demonstration on baking carrot cakes with cheese frosting and preparing refreshing matcha cincau drinks, simple recipes that could be turned into small business ventures.
PERKIM Kuching Branch Recreation Bureau chairman KK Norlida Halmi highlighted that the programme went beyond cooking.


“This is a meaningful and educational activity. By learning to make and sell these cakes and drinks, our members can generate income and improve their household economy.
“Trading in food brings good profit but it must be done sincerely and honestly to earn blessings. When we do things sincerely, our hearts become more interested and we become more creative ,” she said during the event held at PAWE, Jalan Merak here yesterday (June 23).
While expressing gratitude to KEMAS for its wholehearted support and free knowledge-sharing, Norlida urged members to make the most of such opportunities and to quickly register for future programmes organised by PERKIM.
Meanwhile, Community Skills Education Supervisor for Petra Jaya, Dayang Habibah Awang Adeng said that the main goal was to empower women to be independent and capable of earning income to support their families
“So I want everyone who came today to not leave empty-handed. You came here to gain knowledge and you will go home bringing back something valuable as well.
“We hope all the knowledge we shared today will be fully beneficial for our women as our main goal is to empower women to be independent and able to earn an income to support their families — this is our priority.
“The purpose of sharing this knowledge is not only to teach you how to make cakes for your children and husbands but more importantly, to ensure that you have a means to earn a living and sustain yourselves,” she said.
