MIRI: As Sarawak’s biggest and longest-running head-shaving charity event approaches, the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) is calling on the community to unite and show their support for children battling cancer.
Now in its 17th year, GoBald Sarawak stands as a powerful gesture of solidarity with young cancer patients, raising essential funds to support them and their families.
The first major GoBald 2025 event will take place on June 15 (Sunday), at the Ground Floor Concourse of The Imperial Mall here, with walk-in registration starting at 10:00 am and the head-shaving session running from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
This year’s campaign theme, ‘Leave Your Mark’, invites individuals, families, and communities to come together to support essential services for children with cancer, including medical aid, specialised treatments, and holistic care programmes.
In 2024, GoBald raised over RM781,000 with more than 290 participants shaving their heads, and SCCS aims to surpass this by raising RM1 million and recruiting at least 400 head shavers in 2025 to expand support services.
The Society’s annual operating costs are about RM2 million, with over 70 per cent going directly to support children and their families.
Last year’s expenses rose to RM2.9 million due to an urgent increase in medical aid sponsorships exceeding RM500,000.
The Miri event will offer family-friendly activities all day, including registration and a merchandise booth, a Perler Beads Corner from 10:00 am to 4:20 pm, an official start at 1:30 pm, head-shaving with SCCS families at 2:10 pm, public shaving at 2:30 pm, and a performance by children from the Sunflower Centre at 3:20 pm.
SCCS invites the Miri community and beyond to come together this weekend, as every donation and shaved head brings hope and strength to children fighting cancer.
Participants can choose to fund-raise, shave their heads, or do both, with a minimum fundraising target of RM50 required for SCCS-sponsored head shaves.
Registration for GoBald 2025 is still open online at www.gobald.my, offering the public a meaningful way to raise awareness and funds for vital cancer support services.
