EL SEGUNDO: LeBron James says he has yet to decide when to retire as he prepares to make NBA history by entering his 23rd season.
The Los Angeles Lakers star, who turns 41 in December, told reporters at media day that he is determined to savour the twilight of a career spanning three decades.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to play the game I love for another season,” said James, the league’s all-time leading scorer and a four-time champion.
“I don’t know when the end is — it’s sooner rather than later — but I’m invested in this journey.”
LeBron, who averaged 24.4 points last season, said his passion for basketball and the discipline of training continue to drive him. “Age is just a number. Not many guys at my age, going into year 23, can play at this level. I try not to take it for granted.”
He is also motivated by a full season alongside Luka Doncic, following the Slovenian star’s blockbuster move from Dallas last year. The Lakers have further strengthened with Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton.
Doncic believes a complete pre-season with LeBron will elevate the 17-time NBA champions: “I think we can do big, big things.” – AFP
