MIRI: A total of 69 associations, organisations, and charitable bodies in the Senadin constituency received RM805,500 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants.
Transport Minister and Senadin assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said the grant distribution is a Sarawak government initiative to assist organisations in carrying out their annual programmes while strengthening efforts to improve the quality of life of the local community.
“This grant is expected to drive the implementation of various social, welfare, and community programmes that bring significant benefits to the people.
“We want recipients to play an active role in the development of the area,” he said this while presenting the grants at a ceremony held at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Senadin Branch Office in Permyjaya on Saturday (March 28).
Lee added that the allocation represents the first tranche of funding for 2026, and each organisation is encouraged to utilise the grant optimally to achieve their planned objectives.
He also stressed that allocations such as MRP grants, which are contributions from the Sarawak Government, are in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen holistic community development, including in aspects of welfare and public well-being.
Meanwhile, he also said that the Sarawak government’s free education policy covers four state-owned higher education institutions, namely Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Curtin University Malaysia, University of Technology Sarawak, and i-CATS University College.
“Free education opens up opportunities for more Sarawakian students to further their studies without financial burden, while also producing quality human capital for the future of the state,” he said.
