SHANGHAI, China: Sarawak Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, was officially invited to attend the International Civil Aviation Forum 2025, themed ‘Enhancing Global Connectivity & Embracing Innovation for Aviation’.
In his speech, Lee shared Sarawak’s vision to strengthen air connectivity and innovation-driven development under the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“Sarawak is at a pivotal stage in transforming its aviation sector, moving from regional connectivity toward an international framework,” he shared.

“Through innovation and collaboration, we aim to connect Sarawak to regional and global aviation networks, create high-value employment opportunities and position Sarawak on the global aviation map.”
The forum, held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was guided by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and jointly organised by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).
It brought together over 300 delegates from across the global civil aviation sector, including representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Asean Secretariat and various national civil aviation authorities.
Civil aviation leaders and senior officials from Laos, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa and Singapore participated in a high-level panel discussion on artificial intelligence, green aviation initiatives and infrastructure innovation, reflecting the industry’s collective commitment to digitalisation and low-carbon transformation.
Two thematic sub-forums, ‘Enhancing Global Connectivity’ and ‘Embracing Innovation for Aviation’ also focused on topics such as big data, artificial intelligence, green energy and infrastructure standardisation.
The International Civil Aviation Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, established in 2024 under CAAC’s guidance, hosted the event as part of its role as a world-class think tank and talent development platform for the global aviation sector.
Building on the success of its inaugural edition in 2024, this year’s forum expanded its international reach and reinforced its position as a key platform for advancing cooperation and innovation in global civil aviation.
