SIBU: Sabah and Sarawak have always been fair in the pursuit of their rights as stipulated in the Constitution, Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) report and the state laws.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Central Youth chief, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said this is a deeply rooted sentiment among the people of Sabah and Sarawak, and it has never been unreasonable for what was rightfully theirs.

“While the former Federal Law Minister, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, may want to constantly shift the blame to MA63 being a piece of British colonial legacy and other reasons, he surely could not deny that the rights of Sabah and Sarawak had been eroded for the past 60 years.

“At that time, Zaid had also done nothing to treat Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners in the formation of Malaysia,” he stated in a press statement here on Saturday.

Lau. who is also SUPP Bawang Assan Chairman, was commenting on Zaid’s recent statement posted on his social media, which sarcastically congratulated Sabah and Sarawak for having 13 of their 29 demands agreed upon in their MA63 negotiations with Putrajaya.

Zaid also insinuated a Prime Minister from Sabah or Sarawak and questioned whether Malaya could go to Sabah and Sarawak unhindered and settled to work.

“I read with deep disappointment about such a provocative statement. His provocative statement will only create further distrust amongst Malaysians, especially from East Malaysia.

“Our Premier has always highlighted that a stronger Sarawak will only strengthen Malaysia. It is our whole-hearted wish for Sarawak to develop with economic resilience, contributing to the stability of the nation,” he pointed out.

Lau also said that Sarawak takes pride in being a harmonious society and must continue to stay united to safeguard its rights for the sake of future generations.
