KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) prefers to let the people decide over Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom’s recent remarks on the Pakan seat.
On Dec 21, Mawan who has since joined Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), told a local English daily that instead of PDP talking about getting back the traditional seats, it should think of how to strengthen Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition to win in the coming state election.
Mawan said now was not the time to divide the seats before one wins the election.
PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing when contacted said he has not much to say but to let the people to decide.

“Whether Mawan is strong or not, it will be up to the people to judge and decide. Besides this, I have no other comments,” said Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP.
During Mawan’s leadership when it was Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) then, the party held eight seats which included Krian, Pakan, Batu Danau, Bekenu and Ba Kelalan. The party currently has three state seats — Tasik Biru, Marudi and Meluan.
In 2014, Mawan left SPDP as party president and formed Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras).
In the 2016 state election, Mawan won the Pakan seat which he contested as a direct BN candidate.
