KUCHING: The Labour Go Rural Area Programme (LGRAP) 6.0 was officially launched here Monday, marking the start of a week-long journey across Sarawak to bring labour-related services directly to rural communities.
Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin praised the Labour Department’s proactive efforts in organising LGRAP 6.0 and ensuring Sarawak’s workforce benefits from the latest legal protections.
“The Labour Go Rural Area Programme is a strategic initiative that extends labour services to rural communities, providing countless benefits to our people, especially private sector workers,” he said during the LGRAP flag-off here.
He praised the involvement of various agencies which collectively demonstrated strong cooperation in delivering quality, direct services to the people.
Willie also encouraged continued collaboration between government departments, employers, and workers to create a safe and fair working environment, adding that outreach programmes like LGRAP help raise public awareness of labour rights protected under national laws.
Meanwhile, Awang Raduan Awang Omar, Director of the Sarawak Labour Department, highlighted the importance of the programme in bridging the information gap for workers in remote areas.

He emphasised that since its first edition in 2020, LGRAP has become a vital platform for labour education, legal advocacy, and fostering cooperation among government agencies, communities, and industry players.
“Through outreach initiatives like LGRAP, we can empower workers and employers in Sarawak with essential knowledge on their rights and responsibilities, ensuring a harmonious and fair work environment,” he said.
Awang Raduan highlighted that following the enforcement of the amended Sarawak Labour Ordinance on May 1, 2025, efforts to raise awareness have intensified, aligning with government policies to build an inclusive and progressive employment ecosystem through close collaboration with employers, workers, and training institutions.
“Following the amendment the department has been very proactive in organising various programmes and initiatives to ensure both workers and employers in Sarawak are alert to changes and improvements in the provisions of the Labour Ordinance.
“Among them are maternity leave, paternity leave, reduced working hours, and more,” he said.
