KUCHING: Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) is continuing the digitalisation of Malaysia’s tax system with the rollout of Phase 4 of its e-Invoicing initiative, involving about 10,000 companies in Sarawak.

LHDN Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said the latest phase is part of a broader tax transformation agenda aimed at strengthening transparency, efficiency, and compliance among businesses.

“Approximately 10,000 companies in Sarawak under Phase 4 will participate in the e-Invoice initiative,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on Wednesday.

At the national level, nearly 200,000 companies across Malaysia have implemented e-Invoicing, with the number of digital documents received now exceeding one billion.

Dr Abu Tariq added that, beyond e-Invoicing, LHDN is also encouraging companies to take part in the ‘Tax Corporate Governance’ programme. The initiative is a strategic collaboration between LHDN and the corporate sector to ensure governance and tax reporting meet the highest standards.

On access to e-Filing, particularly in rural areas, he said LHDN continues to provide support through its offices and satellite offices throughout Sarawak.

“If there are difficulties in making submissions, our offices across Sarawak are ready to assist. As e-Filing has long been in place and compliance levels are high, individuals who still face issues can visit any office or satellite office in the state,” he said.

During the meeting, Dr Abu Tariq also introduced the Sarawak LHDN leadership team to the Premier. The state office is currently led by Abang Ehsan Abang Abu Bakar, Director of HASiL Sarawak.
