KUCHING: Sarawak continues to demonstrate that unity is built through shared spaces of learning and community engagement, says Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
He emphasised that Sarawak’s greatest strength lies in its diversity and the strong sense of togetherness shared by all Anak Sarawak, regardless of race, religion or background.
“Programmes like this bring people together in a meaningful way. When our children read, learn and grow together in an inclusive environment, we are laying a strong foundation for unity and mutual respect.”
Yap said this during the Program Sentuhan Komuniti Bestari organised by Perpustakaan D’Everglade Stutong Baru here on Monday (Dec 15).
He highlighted that modern libraries are no longer merely places for books, but have evolved into community hubs that promote lifelong learning, digital literacy and social interaction.
“Community libraries play an important role in shaping knowledgeable, open-minded and resilient communities. They are spaces where values, understanding and unity are nurtured.”
He also commended the organisers and volunteers for their dedication in making the programme a success, noting that such grassroots initiatives reflect the true strength of the Sarawakian spirit of cooperation, inclusiveness and shared responsibility.
“As Sarawakians, we must continue to protect and strengthen the harmony that defines our state. Our diversity is not a weakness, but a strength that must be cherished and passed on to future generations.”
He reaffirmed his continued support for initiatives that empower communities through education and knowledge-sharing, stressing that sustainable development must go hand in hand with strong social cohesion.
The Program Sentuhan Komuniti Bestari aims to foster a culture of learning, encourage community participation and strengthen unity within the local community of Stutong Baru.
