SONG: Minister of Works and Kapit Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has proposed that Katibas state assemblyman, Lidam Assan, be retained as a candidate in the upcoming Sarawak State Election (PRN), citing his track record and commitment to development in the area.

He said the continuity of development in the region requires a leader who is not only hardworking but also has proven performance in bringing progress to the people.

“The continuity of development very much depends on a leader who is diligent and has a good track record in driving development for the rakyat. On that basis, I propose that YB Lidam Assan be maintained as a candidate in the coming PRN,” he said.

He said this in a statement posted on his official Facebook page after officiating the opening of Dewan Kebiau Song here on Sunday (Jan 25).

The multipurpose hall, built at a cost of RM1.9 million, was funded through an allocation announced by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, during a walkabout programme in 2023.

Nanta also said the hall should not be viewed merely as a physical structure, but be fully utilised as a centre for community activities and human capital development.

He also reminded the local community to jointly safeguard the facility and ensure it is not misused.

Touching on development in Song, he noted that the area has progressed significantly compared to the past.

“Infrastructure development in the Katibas constituency area has improved steadily, and planning should now focus on enhancing socio-economic development to improve the standard of living of the people in Song.

“I also touched on the importance of engagement, namely continuous discussions between elected representatives and the views of all stakeholders, so that every development implemented truly benefits the people,” he said.

At the same time, he reminded Lidam, particularly in his role overseeing socio-economic matters under the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), to also pay attention to development in other areas and not focus solely on Song or the Katibas constituency.

At the event, Nanta also presented assistance to nine river fishermen in the form of boats, outboard engines and fishing equipment, channelled through URDA, to help boost their income.

He also congratulated the newly appointed penghulu as well as community and village heads (KMKK) and expressed appreciation to those who have completed their service.
