KUCHING: World No. 1 para-shuttler, Cheah Liek Hou, delivered a commanding performance to clinch a double title at the Spanish Para Badminton International in Toledo, Spain, on Sunday (March 29).
The national athlete continues to demonstrate his dominance in the men’s singles SU5 (upper limb impairment) category by defeating Taiwan’s world No. 3 Fang Jen Yu 21-19, 21-16 in the final.
Liek Hou showed composure in a closely contested opening game before stepping up his intensity in the second to seal the victory.
The triumph continued his strong run of form following his ninth world title success in Bahrain last month, further reinforcing his standing in the SU5 class.
Returning to the court later the same day, Liek Hou teamed up with Brazil’s Yuki Roberto Rodrigues in the men’s doubles event.
The pair proved too strong for Taiwan’s Fang Jen Yu-Pu Gui Yu, securing a 21-11, 21-15 win in the final.
Liek Hou’s coach Nova Armada said the singles title was the main target.
“We targeted the singles title as this is the same opponent he beat at the World Championships,” said Nova.
