KUCHING: Form Five students of SMK Taee, Serian received an uplifting dose of motivation during a community centred talk by education advocate, Dr Clarence Jerry, at the school hall on Friday.
The session titled ‘The Road to Success: Building Strength, Character and Faith for SPM and Beyond’, brought together parents, teachers and members of the school community to encourage students ahead of their examination.
Expressing his appreciation to the school, Clarence thanked God for the opportunity to speak and acknowledged the role of families and teachers in shaping the students’ academic journey.
“Every student has a unique journey. What matters most is steady effort and consistent improvement,” he said, urging students to focus on self growth rather than comparing themselves with others.
He also reminded them to surround themselves with positive peers who helped them stay focused and responsible.
“Choose friends who encourage you, who help you stay focused and who remind you of your responsibilities,” he shared.
Clarence stressed that education went beyond examinations, highlighting life skills such as time management, discipline and emotional resilience as tools students would carry into their future studies and careers.
He further advised students to prioritise their wellbeing by maintaining good health and respecting the sacrifices of parents and elders.
“Gratitude keeps us grounded and respect strengthens our relationships,” he added, before reminding students to practise mindful use of technology and social media for learning rather than distraction.
He also encouraged students to balance effort with spiritual values.
“Do your best with discipline and humility and trust God to guide the rest,” he said.
Teachers, parents and students welcomed the session, describing it as timely, practical and encouraging as the candidates prepared for their examinations.
The programme ended with a short prayer for wisdom and strength for all SPM candidates.
