Limbang hosts colourful Tea Reception for Agong’s Birthday

LIMBANG: The Tea Reception held in conjunction with the Official Birthday of His Majesty the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong was celebrated with splendour, tradition and unity at Dewan Suarah Limbang on Saturday.

Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusii, was warmly welcomed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Prior to the main event, the dignitaries were given a tour of the ‘Raja Kita’ Royal Exhibition, which highlights the history and significance of the Malay Rulers’ institution in Malaysia.

The exhibition, held from June 12 to 15, features a variety of activities, including health screenings, a complete meal set competition, colouring contests, Limbang Talent 2025, ‘Jejak Dirgahayu’ which is an educational and interactive programme that fosters patriotism and appreciation for the monarchy’s role in Malaysia, zumba sessions, and a range of community programmes promoting unity and harmony.

The event served as a symbol of the people’s loyalty to the royal institution and as a platform to strengthen unity and patriotism among Sarawak’s multiracial community.

The official programme commenced with a welcoming performance titled ‘Harmoni Dirgahayu’, a cultural presentation that symbolised unity and conveyed well-wishes for the King’s longevity and reign.

This was followed by the screening of a special video, ‘Titipan Untuk Tuanku’, a heartfelt tribute dedicated to His Majesty that conveyed the people’s well-wishes, gratitude and appreciation for the King’s role and contributions to the nation.

The highlight of the evening was the cutting of pulut kuning, a traditional glutinous rice dish cooked with coconut milk and turmeric, marking the official birthday celebration of His Majesty, before guests were invited to the reception.

As part of the event’s outreach, 100 recipients received RM100 each in aid, which included various forms of welfare assistance such as General Aid, Senior Citizens Assistance, Disabled Workers Allowance, Aid for Non-Working Disabled Persons, Foster Child Assistance, Child Assistance and Caregiver Support for patients or bedridden persons with disabilities.

The evening was enlivened by performances from artistes, Miey Sanisya, Donny Lang, Siti Azliyani and a special appearance by Bob Yusof.

Cultural performances showcased Sarawak’s rich heritage through the ‘Rong Sia’ dance by the Lun Bawang community, Joget Tempurung, and Zapin Sarawak, reflecting the diversity and harmony of the state’s people.

Among those present were the Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Minister-in-Charge of the State-Level Celebration, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, along with state ministers, elected representatives, heads of departments, community leaders and over 1,000 invited guests.
