LINGGA: The water supply capacity for Lingga is expected to increase to 1.65 million litres per day (MLD) by September 2025, following the completion of a new water treatment plant (WTP) equipped with advanced acute system technology.

According to Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, who is also the Sebuyau state assemblyman, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Lingga currently receives a water supply of 0.65 MLD from the Lingga WTP.

“This capacity will increase to 1.65 MLD once the new WTP – which uses the acute system technology and is located adjacent to the current plant – is completed in September 2025,” he said.

For further strengthening of water infrastructure, Julaihi also announced the approval of a 74 kilometre (km) water pipe grid system from Bayai Water Treatment Plant in Sri Aman to Lingga.

“Bayai WTP currently has a capacity of 53 MLD, with 46 MLD currently in use, meaning there is a water reserve margin of 7 MLD,” he said in his speech during the sacrificial ritual event for Lingga constituency in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha today.

He said that the 74-km pipe grid system is part of the water grid system in the Sri Aman Division, which begins from the new WTP (75 MLD) in Engkilili, currently under construction.

“The water pipe grid system in the Sri Aman Division will form part of the Southern Sarawak Regional Water Grid System.

“The Southern Sarawak Region comprises the Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman and Betong Divisions, which will eventually be connected to the Central Sarawak Regional Water Grid System,” said Julaihi.

At the event, Julaihi also approved a special grant amounting to RM30,000 for the Lingga Mosque Management Board.
