MIRI: A total of 30 fighters from LION30 Muaythai Club Miri, ranging from promising young talents to seasoned semi-pros, will step into the ring for the city’s first-ever Miri Amateur Muaythai Challenge 2025.
The tournament, set to take place from Oct 31 to Nov 2 at Permy Mall, will see around 150 athletes from across Malaysia and neighbouring countries competing in various weight and skill categories.
The event marks a major milestone for the Muaythai community here, aiming to promote youth development and provide positive pathways through combat sports.
LION30’s contingent includes 26 amateur fighters and four semi-professionals who will feature in the co-main and main events.
The team’s athletes, aged between eight and 40, have been training intensively under club owner Eric Ting Zhi Xuan in preparation for the challenge.
“We will be joining the first-ever Muaythai event in Miri, the Miri Amateur Muaythai Challenge 2025.
“One of the aims is to provide positive opportunities for youth, especially through combat sports which promote discipline and resilience,” Eric told Sarawak Tribune recently.
The Miri Amateur Muaythai Challenge 2025 will feature a series of live fights, including exciting “superfights” between top competitors.
Eric expressed hope that the event will inspire greater participation in the sport, particularly among young people, and open up a positive pathway for them through Muaythai.
