SIBU: Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan held the Lions International District 308-A2 Peace Poster Contest Award Presentation Ceremony at Wong Nai Siong Secondary School here on Friday.
The event aims to encourage young people to unleash their creativity through art, expressing their understanding and vision of peace, while fostering values of harmony, compassion and social responsibility from an early age.
In her speech, organising chairperson, Pok Chee Hua, shared that this year’s contest drew enthusiastic participation, with a total of 132 students taking part.
She said the entries showcased diverse styles and themes, ranging from family bonds and friendship, to environmental protection, racial harmony, anti-war messages, and the beauty of nature.
“These works fully reflected the youths’ unique perspectives and sincere aspirations for peace.
“After a rigorous judging process, eight outstanding pieces were selected, comprising the champion, first runner-up, second runner-up, and five consolation prize winners,” she stated.
Distinguished Lions leaders from District 308-A2 were present at the ceremony, including District 308-A2 First Vice-Governor, Datuk Jimmy Tie Hien Hwa, and spouse; Past District Governor, Datuk Betty Wong Yieng; Past District Governor; Datuk Lawrence Ting Siew Hau; Region Chairperson, Jeremy Sim; Zone Chairperson, Tiau Kiu Ung; and Peace Poster Contest District Chairperson, Robert Wong.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of prizes, certificates and awards by District 308-A2 Governor, Datuk Winnie Lee Siew Ping, to the winning students.
In her address, she stressed that peace is not merely the absence of war, but also a spirit of mutual respect, tolerance and cooperation.
She encouraged students to bring the ideals of peace expressed in their artwork into their daily lives, starting from themselves and their schools, so as to become pillars of a harmonious society in the future.
This year’s Peace Poster Contest carries the theme ‘Together as One’.
Meanwhile, the contest witnessed Jeffery Ong Zhen Ann being announced as the champion, followed by Loh Kim Chuan as the first runner-up, and Chieng En Ya as second runner-up.
Five other consolation winners were Peggy Ting Siong Rui, Angus Dieu Jun Shiong, Rechan Lee Jing, Sandy Ho Shu Ting, and Kony Hii Shun Yu.
