KUCHING: The Lions Club of Kuching Lavender marked a significant milestone at its Charter Night with the installation of its chartered president, Connie Tan, who described the role not as a position of prestige, but one of responsibility and service.

At the event, in the presence of distinguished guests, including district governor 308-A2 Dato Winnie Lee, Serembu assemblyman Dato Miro Simuh, guiding Lion PID (past international director) Datin Ellis Suriyati Omar, PP (past president) Sim Kuang Boon and sponsoring club president Tan Chai Hoon, the evening began with protocol formally observed and a warm welcome extended to fellow Lions and invited guests.

Accepting the appointment with humility and gratitude, Tan expressed heartfelt appreciation to the guiding Lions, particularly Ellis Suriyati, Lee and the sponsoring club for their mentorship, encouragement and unwavering support in making the chartering of the club possible.

The newly chartered Lions Club of Kuching Lavender was established with a clear service focus on rural community outreach, youth development, health and mental awareness, and environmental initiatives.

Tan acknowledged the shared commitment of fellow charter members who came together with a common purpose, to serve the community.

“As chartered president, this role is a responsibility to serve in unity and to lead with integrity,” she said, pledging to ensure the club remains inclusive, compassionate, and firmly service-driven.

The Charter Night was described as more than the formal beginning of a club but the start of a legacy rooted in kindness, leadership and meaningful service.

The evening concluded on a high note as about 200 members and guests were invited to join in reaffirming the Lions motto with a resounding call of ‘We Serve’.
