SIBU: The organising committee of the 2026 Asia Pacific Lions Leaders Summit (APLLS) recently paid a courtesy visit to Sibu Division Resident Mohamad Porkan Budiman at his office in the Islamic Complex here.
During the meeting, APLLS chairperson Datuk Betty Wong Yieng, on behalf of the committee, briefed Mohamad Porkan on the latest progress of preparations.
She highlighted that the summit will be held in Sibu from July 17 to 19 next year, and is expected to welcome more than 800 Lions leaders and delegates from 17 countries and regions.
“This historic summit will not only be a significant event for Lions Clubs in the Asia-Pacific region but will also serve as an important platform to showcase Sibu’s unique cultural heritage and warm hospitality to the world,” she said.
Wong, who is also Lions International District 308-A2 Past District Governor, appealed for the Resident’s assistance in areas, including airport arrangements, security, transportation, hospitality, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the successful hosting of the summit.
Mohamad Porkan expressed his keen support, commended Lions Clubs for their long-standing contributions to humanitarian service and international goodwill, and said he was delighted that Sibu had been chosen as the host venue for the prestigious event.
He further assured that the Resident’s Office will work closely with the relevant authorities to provide full support for the success of the summit.
The courtesy call not only strengthened collaboration between Lions Clubs and the local government but also laid a solid foundation for the successful hosting of the APLLS.
Among those present in the visiting delegation were Lions International District 308-A2 First Vice Governor Datuk Jimmy Tie Hien Hwa and other Lions International District 308-A2 Past District Governors.
