KUCHING: The world of football is in mourning following the tragic death of Diogo Jota, Liverpool and Portugal’s gifted forward, who was killed in a car crash on Spain’s A-52 near Zamora today.

He was 28.

Reports confirm that Jota’s younger brother, André, also died in the accident. The pair was believed to be returning from a private family trip.

Just weeks earlier, Jota had celebrated his wedding. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Known for his intelligence on the ball, relentless pressing, and instinctive finishing, Jota earned admiration at Liverpool after joining the Reds in 2020.

His performances also made him a key figure for Portugal on the international stage, where he earned over 30 caps and featured in several major tournaments.

While the game has lost a talented forward, many will remember Jota not just for his goals, but for the quiet intensity and humility he brought to the pitch.

His passing leaves a void not only in his teams, but in the hearts of those who saw in him the very spirit of the beautiful game.
