MIRI: A Peninsular-based livestream seller has come under scrutiny for allegedly making inflammatory remarks targeting East Malaysians.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Piasau Branch Publicity Secretary and Miri City Councillor Tan Lek Jin said the remarks, made during multiple livestream sessions, contained insulting language that could provoke hostility between East and West Malaysia.

Tan lodged a police report at the Miri Central Police Station and urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to launch an immediate investigation.

“She repeatedly used derogatory and insulting language against East Malaysians during her livestreams, and even made remarks that appeared intended to provoke resentment between both regions.

“Such irresponsible and crude comments jeopardise the harmony between East and West Malaysia and undermine the unity we uphold in a multicultural society.

“The authorities must take this matter seriously and act according to the law to stop similar incendiary content from spreading online,” he said in a statement.

Tan said the conduct amounted to an affront to social harmony and an insult to the people of East Malaysia.

He added that the remarks also posed a potential threat to public safety and should not be taken lightly.

“I call on all Sarawakians to uphold social harmony and unity, and to reject any form of hate speech or divisive rhetoric so that Sarawak remains a peaceful, inclusive and mutually respectful society,” he added.
