KUCHING: Incumbent Batu Kitangstate assemblyman, Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, has expressed his intention to defend the Batu Kitang seat under the banner of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming Sarawak State Election so that he can continue bringing development and progress to the constituency.

He said Batu Kitang remains the best and most suitable seat for him to contest, as he has invested years of hard work and commitment serving the people in the area.

According to him, his close relationship with the local communities and his long involvement in grassroots development efforts have enabled him to understand the needs and aspirations of residents in Batu Kitang.

“Of course I will long to and want to defend the seat. I have put in a lot of effort in this constituency over the years, both as an elected representative and previously as chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

“I have been constantly on the ground and been in touch with the people, the voters in the area. So this will be the best seat for me to defend,” he said.

Asked if there is any possibility that he may be asked to contest in other seats instead of Batu Kitang, he replied, “I hope it will not happen. I think our party president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS chairman, also want to win the seat.”

Lo said his experience in local government administration had helped him plan and implement development projects more effectively for the benefit of the people.

He noted that many infrastructure and community development initiatives have been carried out in Batu Kitang in recent years, including road upgrades, flood mitigation measures, and improvements to public facilities.

Lo, however, stressed that more work still needs to be done to further enhance infrastructure, improve connectivity, and raise the overall quality of life for residents in the constituency, adding that more development projects had been planned in years to come.

“If given the mandate again, I will continue working hard with the Sarawak Government to ensure Batu Kitang receives the development it deserves,” he said.

Lo also expressed confidence that the strong leadership of the Sarawak Government under GPS would continue to bring stability and steady development to Sarawak.

He said the support and cooperation of the people are crucial in ensuring that ongoing and future development projects in Batu Kitang can be implemented smoothly for the benefit of all communities.

The next Sarawak State Election is widely anticipated to be called within the constitutional time frame, setting the stage for what many observers believe will be another comfortable outing for GPS.

The current 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is mandated to conclude on or before 10 April 2027, following the 2021 election.

The next state election must be held by that date, with 82 or 99 seats (pending the Election Commission’s concurrence) to be contested.
