LUBOK ANTU: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has stressed the vital role of local council members in shaping and implementing state government policies.

The Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government asserted that the role of council members goes beyond ensuring the smooth delivery of basic services.

“Council members are not only responsible for basic services but also play a crucial role in the formulation of policies that affect the lives of the people.

“The successful implementation of policies and regulations in Sarawak requires comprehensive cooperation from all stakeholders, including council members, associations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).”

Earlier, Dr Sim witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of 32 new members of the Lubok Antu District Council (MDLA), held on Tuesday (April 15).

These members were officially appointed for the term from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028.

Akoi Ejau was announced as the chairman, with Larkin Gol appointed as the deputy chairman.

In his remarks, Akoi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and the other newly appointed members.

He stressed that their roles were not mere titles but significant duties that would contribute to the development of the district, aiming for progress that is fair, sustainable, and aligned with the needs of the people.

“The role of council members is vital as the bridge between the government and the people.

“Fresh ideas, effective project monitoring, and quality service delivery are key to a successful local administration.”

He also urged his fellow council members to work closely with the administration, government agencies, and the local community to ensure the success of Lubok Antu’s development agenda.
