KUCHING: A 38-year-old local man was arrested for attempting to rob security guards collecting cash from a bank in Tabuan Jaya, an offence that could land him up to 14 years in jail under Section 392 of the Penal Code.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was apprehended by members of the public at the scene yesterday (Apr 24).
A clip showing the suspect being caught has has since gone viral on social media.
“Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect admitted to being involved in the case.
“Checks found the man has one prior criminal record and tested positive for drugs following a urine screening,” he said.
He is currently under investigation for robbery, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and may also include a fine or whipping upon conviction.
Police urged anyone with further information on the case to contact investigating officer Inspector Tan Chiang Fook at 018-2628805.
The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the Kuching IPD control centre at 082-244444 or to the nearest police station.
