SPAOH: Police have arrested a local man on Tuesday after he allegedly ran amok armed with a long sickle and threatened a victim in what is believed to be over an old grudge.
Betong Police chief DSP Rejali Angong said the incident happened at 5:49 pm in Kampung Hulu Spaoh, prompting a swift response from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Spaoh Police.
“A body search on the 53-year-old suspect also found a kerambit and a small sheathed knife inside the sling bag he was carrying.
“All three weapons were seized for further action,” he said.
Rejali added that the cause of the incident is believed to be an old grudge.
The suspect will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possessing dangerous weapons.
If convicted, the first offence carries up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, while the second carries up to two years’ imprisonment and whipping.
Rejali thanked members of the public for promptly alerting police, which led to the arrest and prevented any untoward incidents.
