Local man, foreign national held over migrant smuggling

LUBOK ANTU: A local man in his 70s and a foreign national in his late 20s were arrested on Wednesday (Feb 11) for allegedly being involved in migrant smuggling activities in Jalan Batu Kaya here.

Lubok Antu police chief DSP Pricha Azin said the two suspects were detained by a task force team from the district police headquarters during an operation in the area.

“The foreign suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine following an initial urine screening conducted by police,” he said.

Police seized a Perodua Kancil, a car key and two mobile phones, with the total value of the items estimated at RM6,500.

The case is being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007, Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002), and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
