SARATOK: Police arrested a 27-year-old local man and recovered a stolen car in an operation at an oil palm plantation in Sessang, Kabong on Thursday (Mar 26).

Saratok Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said the suspect was detained by a team from the district Criminal Investigation Department.

The arrest led to the recovery of a Perodua Kancil reported stolen earlier this month.

“Initial investigations found that the vehicle, belonging to a 71-year-old man, had been parked in Ulu Roban on March 1 before it was discovered missing the following day,” Mathew said in a statement.

Police later recovered the car at a plantation area following information provided by the suspect.

A screwdriver and a length of wire believed to have been used in the theft were also seized.

Mathew said the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has previous criminal records involving theft and drug offences.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect admitted to stealing the vehicle by forcing it open and starting the engine using tools.

He also confessed to involvement in a separate motorcycle theft case in Roban.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
