KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police has arrested a local man for allegedly possessing a homemade air rifle yesterday.
Acting on gathered intelligence, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducted an ‘Ops Laras’ raid on a house in the district at around 10.40 am.
Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody and a homemade air rifle was seized.
Background checks revealed that the suspect had two prior records related to drug offences.
“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of seven years or a maximum fine of RM10,000 or both, upon conviction.
“The suspect will be remanded for four days until Feb 22 to facilitate investigations,” he said.
Jaimi added that they are awaiting the report from the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK)’s weapons expert to conduct an analysis of the seized firearm.
Once the report is obtained, the case will be referred to the Sarawak deputy public prosecutor for further action.
