SIBU: A well-known local social media influencer, Chen Ding Ding, 41, was killed after being involved in a self-accident at Jalan Teng Kung Suk 2 here early this morning.

In the incident, which occurred at about 2 am, the orange four-wheel-drive Ford Ranger he was driving is believed to have lost control before veering off the road and crashing into the rear section of a container trailer chassis that was parked at the end of the road.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, when contacted, said police received a call informing them of the incident, and a team of officers was dispatched to the scene for further action.

“Preliminary investigations found that the vehicle driven by the victim lost control, veered off the road and struck a container trailer chassis parked by the roadside. When officers arrived, the victim was still in the driver’s seat and unconscious,” he said.

According to him, personnel from the Sibu Central Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were also deployed to assist in extricating the victim, who was trapped inside the vehicle.

The rescue operations required firefighters to cut off the roof of the vehicle to remove the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sibu Hospital.

The body was later handed over to the police before being sent to the same hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In the incident, the front portion of the victim’s vehicle was reported to have been wedged beneath the container trailer chassis due to the impact of the collision.
