KUCHING: Students and educators in Sarawak have been encouraged to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of the learning process.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said tools such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek are already reshaping how people learn, work and communicate globally.
He said AI should not replace human effort, but instead be used to enhance creativity, curiosity and critical thinking among students and teachers alike.
“To all students, keep aiming high. Be proud of your achievements but stay humble and hungry to learn more.
“And to all educators, your legacy lives on in every life you touch. May you continue to inspire excellence wherever you go,” he said.
He said this in a speech read by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman, Tan Kai, during Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jalan Arang’s Teacher’s Day and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2024 Excellence event today.
Dr Sim also congratulated SPM 2024 achievers, saying their success was earned through discipline, sacrifice and the support of teachers and parents.
He reminded students that today is not the end, but a stepping stone to bigger goals in life and future contributions to society.
“Your results are not by chance. They reflect your determination, focus and growth. Today, we celebrate both achievement and perseverance,” he said.
On the same note, he said Sarawak is proud of its global contributions, citing Dr Diana Foo of Sarawak General Hospital as an emerging leader named by the World Heart Federation.
Dr Sim also noted Sarawak Heart Centre’s recent recognition as one of Asia Pacific’s Top 100 hospitals by Newsweek , proving local excellence is possible.
“We have shown that even in the jungle of Borneo, world-class success can be achieved through our people’s passion and commitment,” he added.
On Teacher’s Day, the Batu Kawa assemblyman said educators are mentors, motivators and moulders of character, shaping the next generation beyond just academics.
“Your service is indispensable to our progress as a society. Thank you for your noble and selfless dedication,” he told teachers present.
