MIRI: Police in Miri arrested a 41-year-old local woman in connection with the theft of a pressure cleaner from a major supermarket in the town.

The suspect has been detained for questioning.

The suspect was detained following an investigation into a theft reported at Miri Departmental Store Sdn Bhd, where a pressure cleaner valued at RM250 was allegedly stolen on February 2.

Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Abdullah, said the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.

The stolen item was later recovered during a search at the suspect’s residence, police confirmed.

In a statement, Farhan urged business owners and members of the public to remain vigilant and strengthen security measures, particularly in areas outside retail premises.

He advised shop operators to ensure closed-circuit television systems are installed and functioning, and called on the public to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police to help curb criminal incidents.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
