MIRI: A local woman was arrested in the early hours of Monday after being suspected of stealing parcels containing clothing worth about RM3,000 at Miri Times Square.

The suspect was detained at about 1.30 am yesterday (Dec 29) by private security guards after allegedly taking parcels from the ground floor lobby and corridor of Block C at the commercial complex.

She was later handed over to a police mobile patrol unit before being taken to the Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.

Police said closed-circuit television footage showed the woman removing parcels placed on top of mailboxes at the ground floor lobby of Block C. The parcels were reported missing by their owner, who subsequently lodged a police report.

The suspect has been remanded at the Miri Central Police Station lock-up and is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
