BAU: Tasik Biru Assemblyman, Datuk Henry Jinep, has called on his constituents, particularly youths, to draw inspiration from the Indonesian island of Bali which is known the world over for its beauty.

He said millions visit Bali every year, not only for being a beautiful island but also because of the locals’ creativity in enhancing the beauty of the island.

‘Bali has become a world-renowned tourist destination because of its emphasis on creative landscaping and the way it markets its cultural identity,” he said.

“Our youth today have the potential to turn their creativity into business opportunities. What starts as an idea can become a product, and eventually, a tourist attraction,” he added.

He said this at the closing of the state level Sculp & Robo Challenge 1.0, organised by Kolej Komuniti Mas Gading in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak, at Bau Civic Centre here Saturday.

“We want the community to see landscaping as more than just decoration. Even a simple wooden house can be transformed into a beautiful attraction with the right landscape design,” he added.

“No matter how luxurious a house is, without a proper landscape, it lacks soul.”

Towards this end he said Kolej Komuniti has been tasked with organising a landscape competition across the Tasik Biru constituency in an effort to showcase the cleanliness and beauty of its villages and surrounding areas.

Given that landscaping is one of the subjects taught at Kolej Komuniti, it would be appropriate if this initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Bau District Office, he said.

“Maybe for next year, we will have the landscape competition, headed by Bau District Office in collaboration with Kolej Komuniti, which will organise the competition based on zones. Categories will include schools and villages, to encourage greater participation and interest among the local community.

“This initiative is aligned with our college syllabus, and we hope it will spark more interest in landscape design among the younger generation. We aim to encourage more students to pursue landscaping courses at Kolej Komuniti,” said Henry.

He said through this initiative, the district hopes to attract more visitors to Bau and promote a culture of creativity and environmental beautification, especially by leveraging platforms like TVET and other creative education programmes.
