Log output rebounds sharply

KUCHING: Jaya Tiasa Holdings Bhd reported a sharp rebound in log production to 8,169 cubic metres (cu m) in May, up from 4,741 cu m in April 2024. 

However, the figure still trails April 2025’s output of 9,916 cu m, according to filings with Bursa Malaysia.

The group holds timber concessions across 413,801 hectares, including 120,395 hectares of reforestation area, of which 75,622 hectares are plantable. 

In 2024, log sales dropped 6 per cent to 91,280 cu m, while average sale prices fell 22 per cent year-on-year to RM617 per cu m due to weaker export demand.

In its oil palm segment, fresh fruit bunch (FFB) output fell to 70,355 tonnes in May (April: 72,485 tonnes; May 2024: 82,084 tonnes). 

As of June 30, planted and matured estate area declined to 68,569 hectares from 69,589 hectares a year ago due to replanting efforts. CPO output dipped to 16,216 tonnes (April: 16,271 tonnes), while palm kernel production rose to 3,688 tonnes from 3,579 tonnes in April.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Plantation Bhd’s FFB production slipped to 26,513 tonnes in May, down from 27,386 tonnes in May 2024 and 30,166 tonnes in April 2025. CPO output fell to 8,673 tonnes from 9,512 tonnes, though up from April’s 7,605 tonnes. 

Palm kernel production dropped to 1,868 tonnes (May 2024: 2,077 tonnes), but improved significantly from April’s 675 tonnes. 

The group holds 42,166 hectares in landbank, with 36,232 hectares plantable.

Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd (SOP) saw a marginal FFB rise to 102,824 tonnes in May (May 2024: 102,111 tonnes), though CPO output declined to 31,273 tonnes from 32,740 tonnes. 

Palm kernel volume inched up to 6,954 tonnes (May 2024: 6,947 tonnes). SOP has 83,916 hectares under oil palm as of end-2024.
