KAPIT: The local longhouse people have been urged to be patient while waiting for development projects for their respective areas.

“Development projects such as the building of roads take time. They cannot be done in a day,” said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu.

He was speaking to about 1,000 people during last Monday night’s Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Flag Rally at Rumah Edison Bugap, a 42-door longhouse in Sungai Melekun.

He said although projects won’t come fast, GPS will fight for more allocations from the federal government for them.

“I feel your hardship. We all witnessed it during this road tour. If the federal government doesn’t help us, then Sarawak government will implement the projects,” he said.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who was also at the flag rally, said people can support Pakatan Harapan (PH) if they have good policies.

“But as you can see after they won the general election, they have yet to fulfil their promises. Do you expect them to help you?,” he asked.

To him, it is important for the people to continue supporting the GPS as only the coalition can understand Sarawakians and their aspirations.

Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang also spoke at the gathering. He said Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) has had enough of the nonsense of the federal government, which led to the formation of GPS.

“Previously we were controlled by these people. But now we are free and can set our own policies for a more prosperous future for Sarawak,” he said.

He urged the people, especially the young ones, to see the differences between what GPS and PH had done so far, and who they should vote come the next election.

Earlier in the evening, Rentap, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong announced that the four of them would give a total of RM10,000 to Sungai Melekun neighbourhood committees and village security and development committees (JKKK), and another RM10,000 to Sungai Melekun Women’s Bureau.
